Homestay Programs Long and Short Term has been operating since 1991. We originally started out just as a homestay family, and then were asked by a company in Japan to recruit homestay families. Since then we have recruited homestays for several companies, schools and agents. Since our first time hosting students, we have always had someone in our house. It has proved to be a valuable and rewarding experience for everyone in the family.

Homestay is a very important part of English education in Vancouver, Canada. Students are a long way from home and in an unfamiliar culture. We strive to find homestay families that are friendly, helpful, and provide, a positive environment in which to live and learn English.

In our computer database we have over 600 homestay families in the Vancouver area. Canadian people have many different nationalities, religions, and different culture backgrounds. We strive to place students in English speaking homes, but if a particular nationality, and/or background is requested, we will do our very best to accommodate the student.

We are available 24 hours a day to deal with any problems that may arise. We resolve many problems through discussion. However with some problems we find it necessary to move the student to a new family, or remove the family from our list and notify other homestay coordinators.

Needless to say, we work very hard and dedicate a significant amount of time in making sure that we are doing the best job we can possibly do. Homestay is rewarding for both the student and the host family. We still have close bonds with people from all over the world. It is an experience that can open your mind to the vast differences in cultures and people. This is an opportunity that should not be missed.
